Musical Notes #2 - We're Back!

After a beautiful, long, summer break, Foothills Lutheran Choir members are together again, looking forward to our music ministry for the coming season. God has truly blessed us over the summer but we miss the singing, our fellow members and the fellowship of Wednesday nights.

We just had our official "kick-off" barbecue at Christine and Rob Heumann's new home.  It was a blustery evening but with the ensuing boisterous conversation and getting up to speed with summer news, we barely noticed the 100 km/hour winds!

We are always looking for new singers.  Young, old or in-between, if you love singing and would like to use your voice to share the gospel message through song, please talk to any one of us in the choir or our Choir Director, Chad Utke.

Psalm 100

1 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.

I've been told that Foothills Lutheran Church is one of few churches that still actually has an active "choir".    Many churches have praise teams and music groups etc but to find an genuine, dedicated choir is becoming more challenging.

There are numerous verses in the Bible that mention singing.  Over the next few months, I'll include a few of these Psalms of inspiration.

Psalm 63:2-5 is just one of many references pertaining to praising God with song.

Psalm 63: 2-5
2 I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
3 Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
4 I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

I know (because Pastor Bode said so) that we should sing with gusto, as a choir, and as a congregation.  The definition of praise is:  "to extol, to exalt, to worship".  The choir message obviously is delivered with word (song) and music.  If our choir had a job description, I believe it would be to "minister" to the congregation with song and to exalt God's mighty name through our singing.  Yes, the choir is a "music ministry" , if you will and we do it out of our love of singing and our love for God.
