Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church

(August 30 – September 4)

Also known as “The Airdrie Mission”, this mission church asks us to join with them in praising God for the ways He has blessed them and asking Him for continued help.

Monday: Thank God for His provision in giving Airdrie another vicar (Mike Montague) to work with them.  Pray that God would bless his time at Shepherd of the Hills.

Tuesday: Pray for this mission's work in Airdrie, that God would cause it to be a beacon of spiritual light and truth to the people of Airdrie.

Wednesday: Recently, a number of their members teamed up to form a fellowship committee.  Give God thanks for these willing volunteers, and pray that their work would make their church feel welcoming.

Thursday: Intercede on behalf of Andy, Anna, and Bob as each of them had health concerns; that God would heal them soon so that they can take part in the mission and ministry of Shepherd of the Hills in Airdrie.

Friday: Ask God to lead many of their members to take part in the Incarnational Evangelism seminar that will be held this fall, and to use the seminar to equip Airdrie Lutherans to share their faith.

Saturday: Pray that the Lord would give guidance and wisdom to the leaders of this church as they consider starting a Lutheran School in Airdrie.

Faith@Home

(September 6-11)

Our homes can be seen as a mission field too.  Pray for the homes of our church as Children are raised, grandchildren are welcomed and guests are welcomed.

Monday: Give God praise for the hundreds of homes connected to our church and the opportunity we have to encourage each one to become a place for faith.

Tuesday: Pray for the children and parents of our church; that God would equip our parents to nurture the Christian faith in their children through our Faith@Home sessions.

Wednesday: Many of the homes connected to our church are not currently active in the life of our congregation.  Pray for these homes; that God will lead each one to repent and initiate practices that will put Christ at their centres to ever greater degrees.

Thursday: Intercede on behalf of Miriam as she leads this initiative; that God will enable her to encourage families to practice their faith in their homes.

Friday: Intercede on behalf of Pastors Laverne and Mike as they preach a Faith at Home Sermon Series in the coming weeks; that God will use His Word to move more people to a more active faith life.

Saturday: Pray for the homes in our city where Jesus has no place.  Ask God to tear down the spiritual foundations in which they trust, and to lead them to fall on Christ.

Interest Groups

(September 13-18)

Continue to lift this outreach ministry up in your prayers; that God would use it to work faith in the hearts of people who do not yet know Him.

Monday: Rejoice in prayer that God used our slo-pitch group to help us connect with 5 people who do not confess faith in Jesus.  Pray that He'd use the friendships that were built as conduits for His saving love & truth.

Tuesday: Fall can be a great time for hobbies!  Ask God to raise up leaders and participants from our church to form interest groups around their fall hobbies

Wednesday: As we invite those who do not know Jesus, pray that the Lord would open many of their hearts to the invitation to take part in these interest groups.

Thursday: Intercede on behalf of the un-churched people who will join the groups that start up this fall; that they would come to learn about His great love for them through our words and actions.

Friday: Give thanks to God for moving Nick & Vanessa Steinke to lead this initiative since its launch two years ago.  As they consider moving on, ask God to raise up others to lead this outreach ministry.

Saturday: There is still time to start your own fall-themed interest group.  Ask God to inspire your mind with ideas for groups you could start and to embolden you to start one.

Loving Saviour Ministry Plans

(September 20-25)

With the decision to discontinue worship services at St. Basil, the launch team needs to - once again - reconsider how God would have us reach out with His Gospel.

Monday: Thank our Father for the handful of homes we reached with His Word through the worship services we held at St. Basil during the first part of this year.

Tuesday: Later this month, the launch team will be meeting to put plans in place for the coming year.  Ask the Lord to guide them by His Spirit in the way He would have us go.

Wednesday: One thing we lost when we decided to discontinue the services at St. Basil was a regular presence on the community.  Ask God to enable us to find ways to continue to be regularly present among the people we are trying to reach.

Thursday: Intercede on behalf of the launch team as they continue to spearhead our congregation's church-planting efforts.

Friday: We are closer to having a building today than we ever have been before.  Ask our Lord to build momentum in our congregation and in our outreach efforts as the day of our on-site launch draws ever-nearer; that our work will glorify His name.

Saturday: Continue to pray for the people of NW Calgary who do not know what Jesus has done for them, that God will use our efforts to reach them with the Gospel.

Concordia Lutheran Seminary (CLS)

(September 27 – October 1)

This past Sunday was CLS Sunday.  While the seminary does not undertake mission work directly, they do prepare pastors who will lead our churches forward in mission.  Pray that they would succeed in this task.

Monday: Give God glory for using the seminary to train over 100 pastors in 25 years to serve in His harvest fields.

Tuesday: Request that our Lord would use the time that students spend in seminary to craft in them theological minds, pastoral hearts, and missionary eyes, so that they will be fully prepared to lead our congregations forward in ministry and mission.

Wednesday: Field work & vicarage give students opportunities to hone their skills.  Pray that these experiences will also enable them to hone outreach skills.

Thursday: Intercede on behalf of the staff of the seminary as they work together to prepare servant leaders for Christ's church.

Friday: Pray for the men who will be graduating this year; that God would use their final year of study to fully prepare them, not only to shepherd the flocks that will call them, but also to lead their congregations to reach their communities.

Saturday: Pray as Jesus commanded, asking the father to raise up more workers for the harvest fields, and ask His to continue to use Concordia Lutheran Seminary to raise up theses harvest workers.

This is an annual special outreach service   of our church to our neighbours in and around Varsity.  Please pray for this outreach event.

Tuesday: Intercede on behalf of all FLCers; that God would move many of us to invite our friends & neighbours to this service.

Wednesday: Give thanks to God for the many FLC volunteers who have stepped forward to serve.  Pray that God would use their service to show Jesus’ love to visitors.

Thursday: Pastor Laverne is planning a sermon and service that will communicate the Gospel.  Thank God for his work and ask the Lord to bless & use his efforts so that many will hear and believe His Word.

Friday: Every year we hope for good weather, but we aren’t capable of delivering it…  God can!  Pray that He does, so that we will have a great atmosphere for the event under sun and blue skies!

Saturday: Pray for all those who will be visiting the Stampede breakfast and service tomorrow; that God would use His Word and the love we show to draw them nearer to Him.  Pray that many who come will return!

VBS & Bible Camp Preparations

(July 12-17)

A lot of work will have to be done this  week to get ready for these ministries.    Pray for this work and those doing it.

Monday: Thank God for the great volunteers he raised up to serve in the coming weeks.  Thank Him also for all of the children who have already registered.

Tuesday: There is still time for children to register for these outreach programs.  Ask the Lord to raise up and bring forward more children so that we will have more children to introduce to Jesus and His great love.

Wednesday: A lot of detail work has to be done this week as the staff works to get ready.  Pray that God would help all details to be worked out smoothly so that we are fully ready when the children arrive.

Thursday: Intercede on behalf of all of our teachers; that their lessons would be faithful to God’s Word and effective in communicating it.

Friday: VBS is so much more enjoyable when the weather’s warm and the sun is shining.  Ask the Lord to give us good weather for the next two weeks.

Saturday: Even the best planners can’t always think of everything.  Pray that God would already start preparing us for all of those unexpected things and that he would enable us to respond to them appropriately.

Gadget’s Garage: Week One

(July 19-24)

This week, at the church, we’ll be

showing children what happens when

their lives intersect with God's Grace.

Pray for the daily themes that they will

come across loud and clear!

Monday: Jesus is God's Son.  Thank God for sending His one and only Son to be our Saviour and ask Him to show the children just how special and important Jesus is.

Tuesday: Jesus came to seek and save the lost.  Pray that the kids would come to know and treasure the fact that Jesus is their friend - even when they feel they do not belong.

Wednesday: Jesus keeps His promises.  Ask God to use the story of Lazarus to show the children that Jesus not only makes, but He also keeps even the biggest of promises.

Thursday: Jesus died for me to make me clean and new.  Pray that the children will respond with gratitude to the news that Jesus died to forgive their sins.

Friday: Jesus creates new life for you and me.  Jesus makes all things new through His death & resurrection!  Ask Him to make the kids who hear about His love “new” as well!  Also pray for the closing BBQ this afternoon as we have the chance to connect with the parents.

Saturday: As the children leave “Bug Crosing”, ask God to send them out as messengers of Jesus’ power, love and promise among their friends and family.

Gadget’s Garage: Week Two

(July 26-31)

This week, “Bug Crossing” moves from Foothills to Bearspaw!  Please pray again for the children, along with the various elements they will experience each day.

Monday: Praise God for each child who registered for our VBS and Bible Camp and for the opportunities we have to touch each of their hearts with God's love and grace.

Tuesday: Please pray for the time that was and will be spent in teaching.  Ask God to keep His promise and use His Word to inspire faith and hope in the children.  Pray that God would guide the teachers.

Wednesday: Ask the Lord to use the crafts the kids make to enable them to remember the truths they hear.  Lift the craft leaders up in prayer; that they will be able to show the kids how the crafts connect to the stories.

Thursday: Ask God to protect all of the children as they take part in recreation time, so that they’ll have fun & not get hurt.

Friday: Ask God to use the songs the children have been singing to cause His message to stick with them even after this week is over.  Also pray for the closing BBQ this afternoon as we have the chance to connect with the parents again this week.

Saturday: After two long weeks, our volunteers could use a break.  Intercede on their behalf; that God would give them rest & satisfaction in what He did through them.

Outreach Promise

The wicked

earns

deceptive wages,

but one

who sows

righteousness

gets a

sure reward.

~ Proverbs 11:18 (ESV)

Ask God to keep this promise as we share His Word with those we are trying to reach.
