Care for the Caregiver Workshop Jan 20 2013 Print

Have you heard of the term "The Sandwich Generation"?

It is used to apply to the many people who nowadays are providing some level of care and support for their aging parents while their own family is still at home.  This can result in some pretty heavy demands being made on time, energy and emotions.

We have examples of the Sandwich Generation in our own church family and also others who, while lovingly helping to support family or friends through times of need, are also experiencing similar stresses and strains.

Human Care Ministries has enlisted the help of Charlene Retzlaff, who is the resources liaison officer for Alberta Health Services Family Care Centre here in Calgary. Charlene is coming to speak to us on January 20th after the second service. She will address some of the common problems facing the Sandwich Generation and other caregivers, and share some ideas for self-care and for tackling issues frequently associated with care-giving.

Do come and join us for a soup lunch before the presentation. To help us with catering numbers, there is a sign-up sheet on the Human Care notice board, just outside the Fellowship Hall.
