June 9, 2024 – From Tragedy to Triumph
Third Sunday after Pentecost (Series B, Proper 5) – Genesis 3:8-15
God in His grace is not a fan of tragedy. Even as we see the tragedy of the fall, God makes a promise to Adam and Eve, a promise that is ours as well. God condemns the instigator of this tragedy, declaring to the serpent, the devil: “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” In the Offspring of the woman God will do what we could never do—He changes tragedy into triumph and brings us the victory that is ours in that one Offspring, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who was wounded for us as He dies on the cross, but who destroyed the devil as He rises again from the dead.
We thank the Elders for their assistance.
